So this isn't really exclusive to Crysis news, but the guy is playing Crysis on it. Alienware came out with a really cool curved DLP display recently, and guess what they were using Crysis to show it off! Check it out below.
Here is what engadget.com had to say about the new technology: "Don't get all frothed up quite yet because it's still only a prototype, but this sweet doublewide curved DLP display with LED illumination from Alienware will reportedly be available in the second half of '08. The curvature of the 2880 x 900 rez screen mimics peripheral vision, and in action the performance seemed pretty flawless to our Crysis-dazzled eyes (official specs report less than .02-millisecond response time). We did notice three faint vertical dividing lines that appeared to indicate four sub-panels making up this screen, but we may be willing to suspend disbelief in exchange for the potential of indulgent wrap-around immersion. There's not even an inkling of an MSRP on this thing yet, but you know we're gonna be keeping our eyes on this sucker for ya."
This is the official Patch 1.1 for Crysis. The 140MB sized file can be downloaded from one of the sources further below. The patch mainly addresses the performance of Crysis. Additionally it includes quite a few bug fixes and tweaks for the Multiplayer part to provide more balanced gameplay.

Newsweek sat down with Cevat Yerli to discuss the five things that he looks for in a first-person shooter. Check out a snippet below:
"When we're conducting an interview with a developer, the bulk of our time is spent discussing their current project. But after the voice recorder is turned off and the liquor is flowing, the conversation almost inevitably shifts to videogames made by other teams working in the same genre as that developer. For us, it's always fascinating to look at games through the eyes of those who make them, because they often see things through a different set of eyes than the typical gamer; the same can be said of reviewers who are particularly knowledgeable about a certain genre. As part of our ongoing quest to take the best conversations that are occurring in the shadows and bring them to light, we offer you the new occasional series Make or Break, which asks prominent developers and reviewers to share with us the five key features, details, methods or flaws that they look for from games in the same genre.
Our newest contributor is Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. His company first won attention for the large, lush environments and open-ended gameplay in the 2004 title Far Cry, which was published by Ubisoft. Its second game, the military sci-fi thriller Crysis, was released last November to rave reviews for its landmark visuals. In today's installment, Yerli explains what he looks for in a first-person shooter.
2007 has been a fantastic year for gamers. A lot of excellent games were released, all fighting for my limited time and attention. Here are the qualities that kept me playing games even while crunching on Crysis. Every one of them is a make or break criterion; a potential stopping point for me whether playing or even when we're designing our own productions here at Crytek."
This years Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, USA is taking place from February 18th to 22nd. The GDC has evolved into the global mecca for game developers - attracting renowned industry luminaries and innovators alike. On February 18- 22, they will congregate in San Francisco to Learn, Network, and Inspire to make better games.
Crytek will have 5 of there employees present to discuss various issues. Check out the list below.
Cevat Yerli (CEO) - Crysis in the Making Cevat is co-founder and president of Crytek. He was born in 1978. His first games and development experiences go back to the 80s with the Commodore 64 and the Schneider CPC 6128 where he worked on simulation games. Since then, his passion has been making and playing games. After his economics studies he focused his passion on his lifetime project to create Crytek, and in 1997, the studio was born. Cevat drives the vision of Crytek's games and technologies and defines, together with Avni and Faruk Yerli, the studio's strategic business development.
Christopher Evans (Technical Art Lead) - Technical Art Techniques: State of the Industry As graphics hardware evolves exponentially, so does the general complexity of game assets, programming, and the problems encountered with both. The technical artist is quickly becoming the 'swiss army knife' in the Next-Gen game developer toolbox. Not only aiding in the construction of pipelines, characters, tools, or shaders, but also troubleshooting these when they inevitably break down. In the end, the technical artist is required to wear many hats that not only involve good technical problem solving, but the communication skills required to get many different people working together to solve the problem.
Hanno Hagedorn (Character Artist) - One Man Army: The Characters of CRYSIS An in-depth look/post mortem of the CryEngine2 character variation system that was used on the game CRYSIS. Over 350 variations were created from a single character using Next-Gen shader techniques and many interchangeable parts. This session will also function as a character pipeline 'upskirt' of sorts; main topics include facial modeling, boosting the pipeline, topology, memory friendly character variation, and advanced shading.
Boomtown did a great review of Crsis, check out a snippet below:
"However despite all the positives, Crysis still falls foul of the same problem which plagued Far Cry. When fighting against humans, Crysis is enjoyable and well balanced, but once the aliens appear the difficulty ramps up to the point of frustration, although thankfully never reaching the ridiculousness of the last level of Far Cry."
This release includes: *Set HQ Capture Time, Destroy Time, Delay Player, Spawn Delay. *Multi Language Support: English, Polish and German. *Pop up message to tell you if you have the wrong Rcon password. *Connected / Disconnect graphic to indicate when a successful connect has been made to the server.
Change: *To allow a hyphen "-" to be entered into the Spawn Delay Time boxes on the Game Mode tab. This will allow admins to set "-1" as a value. *Maximum auto message length increased from 100 to 128 characters.
Fix: *Score Limit for HQ, DM, TDM and DOM is limited to "999" this will be increased to allow "9999". *Clicking "Get" when RconMax(MW) was not connect to the server would generate multiple "Error - Not Connect To Server" pop up messages. This is fixed to only show 1 message per click.

"We're very close to releasing an update to the Unreal Engine 3 editor, that comes with the PC version of UT3, that will allow UT3 mod-makers to cook their mods into the required PS3 format. We've been doing some internal testing and we're hoping to expand to a wider group tomorrow or Friday. If all goes well then we should see the update released next week which is what I expect will happen. Obviously the process works, as we put out a few mods before Christmas and people seem to be playing them, but it is the update to the editor that we're testing.
If all goes well, using the tool will be as easy as clicking an "Export to PS3" menu item!

After a close-fought battle with Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed, Activision has claimed victory on the British all-format sales chart with Call of Duty 4 taking first place.
According to research group Chart-Track, the game is Activision's first UK Christmas all-format number one. Call of Duty 4's recent 53 percent rise in sales helped propel it to the top of the charts, pushing it almost 35,000 units ahead of Assassin's Creed, which slips to number two.
While Activision sees a holiday triumph, Electronic Arts, which, according to Chart-Track, has taken the Christmas all-format number one every year since Take-Two's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City took the spot in 2002, must settle for the third, fourth and fifth spots with The Simpsons Game, FIFA '08, and Need for Speed: ProStreet respectively.
Both of Nintendo's Brain Training titles remain in the all-format Top 10, though the original takes a slide two places to eighth place. The sequel, however, climbs three places to number five. Outside of the top five, sales are in a neck-in-neck race, with only 2,000 units separating number five from number eight.
Thanks to a surge in Wii Play sales, a 148 percent boost concurrent with a stellar week for Wii hardware, that title climbs from number 17 to number 10, putting Nintendo on par with EA - as each have three titles in the top 10.
THQ's WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 gains 36 percent in sales but remains at number seven, while last week's number one, Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii takes a tumble to number nine, making it the only top 10 title to take a week-on-week dip.
Crysis Tournament Map Pack Of course we have prepared a little Christmas present for you as well. Within the past few months and weeks we haven't been working on patches, SDK and Linux Server only, but also our Level Designers have been very active. Thus we are happy to announce you the release of the official "Crysis Tournament Mappack".
Some of you might know this map pack series from FarCry already. We wanted to continue it for Crysis and have turned it into an official map pack that is being developed and approved by Crytek.
The package includes 5 brand new multiplayer maps for Crysis. All of them have been tested by Crytek's QA department and the professional Crysis teams [00] - Die Doppelnullen, GT - GlobalTeam.eSports and N! - Ninth Gaming.
Following maps are included:
PowerStruggle - Desolation Location: Henderson Island, Pitcairn Islands. Under North Korean domination. Description: The long deserted colony of the Pitcairn Islands was one of the last crash sites to be discovered. The KPA reached the area first and set up a base amid the swampy wasteland.
PowerStruggle - Crossroads Location: Pescadores, West of Taiwan. Under North Korean occupation Description: nCaught between two hostile nations, the tight forested roads and tracks of the Pescadores are better suited to infantry than vehicles.
PowerStruggle - Training Location: Namu Atol, Marshall Islands. Under US control. Description: The Marshall Islands provide the perfect platform for new recruits to learn the skills required to be the ultimate nano-warrior. Here on this tiny atoll the small, but expertly designed, training area provides everything a budding soldier needs.
InstantAction - Excavation (Note: If you have installed an earlier version of it please remove it completely before installing this map pack!) Location: Pago Pago, American Samoa. Description: Under US control. An American stronghold, and location of one of the most valuable research sites so far discovered, the Koreans stole a march on the Americans to set up a surprise forward attack base.
InstantAction - Terminal Location: Moorea, French Polynesia. Description: An old military railway terminal has been converted into a multi-zone training facility. Rooftops are critical to maintaining dominance over the immediate combat area. Multiple advanced weapons have been hidden around the engagement area to facilitate field response to rapidly changing conditions.
Both the two InstantAction and three PowerStruggle maps have been tested over several weeks and are optimized for competitive gamelay, but also provide a valid size for public gaming.
Quite a few of the Trusted Server Providers of Crysis have already set up multiple servers that are running the map pack. Just check them out online and enjoy the new maps!
Sandbox2 Documentation In addition to the map pack we also want to provide you with a whole bunch of new tutorials about the Sandbox2 Editor and its capabilities. They are going to be released within the upcoming days, so better check the Modding Portal regularly to not miss the latest additions to the official documentation.
Patch #1 Delayed – The Reason In an interview around the street date of Crysis we have mentioned to release the first patch within the next two weeks. Till then we already made quite a good progress In the patch itself and it was close to being shipped. Unfortunately due to heavy technical issues that appeared right before the patch was declared final we could not release it in time.
Patch #1 – Current Status Thus we fully concentrated on the issues to get them addressed and resolved. So far the progress on the patch is quite satisfying since everything seems to be working as intended. Currently the patch is being reviewed by Crytek’s and EA’s QA departments and we expect to get the final feedback submitted in the first week of January.
Patch #1 – Scheduled Release Based on this feedback we will be able to set a release date for the long awaited Patch #1 for Crysis. If no major problems occur we expect to have it available for public download within January 2008. This is of course related to the reports from the QA departments, but we are confident to match the schedule.
Patch #1 – Content The last time we have provided you with a rough list of fixes the patch will include. Today we would like to go a bit more into detail and mention the major changes/bug fixes. Patch #1 is still meant to be a performance patch and does not include major gameplay changes or new features. These are being addressed in Patch #2, but more about that further below.
So here is the major change log for Patch #1: (the complete change log will be announced once the patch ships)

"We spent much of the previous year salivating over Crysis, but we didn't know exactly what to expect. After all, Crytek's rookie effort, Far Cry, was groundbreaking in terms of graphics and wide-open environments, but technical demands, some poor difficulty balancing and a lousy save-game scheme kept it from being an instant classic. For Crysis, most of those problems were addressed, making it one of the more memorable shooters of 2007 (or any other year), said GameSpy"
The other top ten games are listed below:
PC Top 10 Games of the Year 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2. The Orange Box 3. BioShock 4. Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar 5. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade 6. The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar 7. World in Conflict 8. Crysis 9. Sam & Max: Season 1 10. The Witcher
What makes Crysis great though is the open design and, of course, the graphics. The bleeding-edge beauty of the game is so intense that even running the game with three top-end graphics cards at once we still couldn’t get perfect performance.
Some view that type of hardware-hogging as a bad point and to some extent they're correct – very few people will be able to play the game as it should be played. However, it does mean that the game is going to scale very well onto future hardware, meaning that Crysis is a game for the future and one that you'll be able to return to time and again in the years to come.
The beautiful graphics are then accentuated by the custom physics engine which lets pretty much everything be demolished. Pick up chickens and throw them around, punch your fists through walls and grab enemies or just vault yourself over tanks and minefields – Crysis is a game that lets players handle each and every battle their own way.
A disappointment to some, who expected the game to revolutionise the industry and were dismayed to find essentially a prettier version of Far Cry, Crysis is a fantastic game in its own right despite the heritage and frequent faltering of individual aspects.

"That's right - ModernRcon v0.4 is now available for download. The biggest most notable added feature will be the realtime in-game chat monitoring that we've added. Now be warned, this uses the PBUCON console, so it is not nearly as well-supported as the rest of the tool.
Also note, to use the chat monitoring portion of the tool, you will need access to your router / firewall to forward a UDP port of your choosing. If you follow on-screen guides you should be okay.
A brief listing of current features is as follows:
* Save servers to a server list. * Configure basic settings (hardcore mode, auto-balance, friendly fire, etc). * Realtime in-game chat monitoring thanks to PBUCON. * Load new maps, configure gametypes, and setup map rotations. * Schedule server messages and save those messages for loading later. * And so much more!
Be sure to leave your feedback, and let me know if you have any questions or comments. Remember: you must have the latest version of JAVA to use ModernRcon!.
