Insurgency Mod Has Arrived! Beta 1 Released
Tuesday 03 July 2007
This is not a drill! The hotly-anticipated Insurgency mod is now available to the public, and FilePlanet has the premiere download available for you! In case you've been living under a rock the past few years

"Dear INS community,

Four years ago, in the mind of Andrew "Argyll" Spearin, Insurgency was born. Since then, the team has grown, the mod has matured and our fan base has expanded. Today, after all the hard work our developers, community liaisons and testers have put in, with both Pongles and I leading the way, we can finally say: It's ready.

We have put you, our loyal community, through a lot of ups and downs. While our development side was doing great, our PR side was lacking. It was a roller coaster ride just trying to get the mod to this point. A lot of crazy things happened that we can't really explain, but led to huge internal misunderstandings. It is no one's fault but our own and we have learned from this and many other mistakes. You can be rest assured to see many Insurgency updates in the future, where the mod should progress quite impressively over time, along with the development team's level of professionalism and its ability to cater to its community as well.

The entire development process of this mod was an amazing learning experience for all of us and we are confident when we say we are better at this now than we were at the beginning. I'm quite confident that you all will appreciate the fruits of our labor, and we look forward to playing with you guys on the server and hearing your feedback!

PS. Expect a small patch in the near future as well"

Pure Mode Made Official
Wednesday 13 June 2007
The day that many people have been waiting for is finally here. A Source engine update, previously in BETA form, introduces a number of additions into the Source engine including the long awaited pure mode.

Servers can now force the client to match the server's files, by becoming a pure server. When a server enables sv_pure, clients who connect and play on the server cannot gain an advantage by modifying the game content. For more information about Pure Servers, click here.

Guess what this means? Those servers running pure mode should be free of persons using clear wall textures, brightly colored models, and other such cheap tricks.

The full change log includes details on the server browser displaying the total number of bots active in a server.

-In-game server browser only shows human players in the player counts column. Bots column now shows number of bots instead of a "some bots" or "no bots" icon
-Fixed servers with bots reporting incorrect number of bots when sv_master_legacy_mode is set to 0
-Fixed a server performance problem with queued packets
-Increased the maximum rate to 1 megabyte
-Added a findflags console command, which can list all cvars with a specified flag. For example: 'findflags server_can_execute' will find all console variables and commands marked with FCVAR_SERVER_CAN_EXECUTE
-Cheat protected many cvars and commands
-Removed cl_restrict_server_commands to prevent clients from being redirected
-Fixed user names reported as "unconnected" when greater than 32k players had connected to the server
-Fixed a client crash during authentication
-Fixed a crash when mashing the ~ key on disconnect
-Fixed a bug with sv_minrate and sv_maxrate not applying properly on the client
-Fixed the free roaming camera in SourceTV demos
-Fixed cl_language archiving itself and not updating correctly when the language changed
-Fixed a voice recording bug that could cause voice dropouts
-Fixed a rare crash when spectating in Counter-Strike: Source

Source Engine Beta Updated
Wednesday 06 June 2007
Update: It seems as though CS: Source will crash with this BETA if you have net_graph set to anything but 0. This issue will be fixed soon.

An update to the currently ongoing Source engine BETA was released tonight. Still unsure on how to participate? Simply add "-beta srcds0407" (without the quotes) to the end of your Steam shortcut command line.

Here is the list of changes, including added cheat protection and a DirectX 8 flashbang exploit fix.
Fixed a server performance problem with queued packets

-Fixed a Counter-Strike: Source flashbang exploit in dxlevel 80
-Game DLLs export ServerGameClients003 for backwards compatibility for plugins
-Only allows mat_picmip to be set to 0, 1, or 2 when in multiplayer and sv_cheats=0
-Cheat-protected snd_foliage_db_loss. Could be used to turn off ambient sounds in Counter-Strike: Source
-Fixed a crash when mashing the ~ key on disconnect
-Fixed a crash with certain materials being blocked from reloading due to sv_pure > 0
-Fixed bug with audio files of different formats overriding the files in Steam where it would use the original audio file's sample rate/format information after pure server rules forced it to load a different file

No More Battlefield 2 Patches Planned
Tuesday 22 May 2007
The guys over at DigitalBattle have posted up a new article today stating that no more patches are planned for Battlefield 2. Have a look:

According to ex-DICE employees, there are no more patches planned for the bug-filled multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2. The former DICE members, who now formed their own studio, said via a forum release that patch 1.4 (released last November)was the last BF2 patch, and that all forces at DICE are focused on Battlefield 2142, which is, unfortunately, just as bug filled as its predecessor.

EA and DICE hasn’t mentioned anything about a patch ever since the last one, over six months ago. And they will probably never reveal that no further patches are planned, since that’ll take away the last hope BF2 players have. Since there most likely won’t be an announcement, this will technically remain a rumor forever, just as BF2 will technically remain a bug filled game.
Sad news to hear but I think everyone expected this for quite awhile now.

Clan Mod v2.0 Released
Monday 26 February 2007
SharkBaiT is back today with the latest release of Clan Mod, v2.0. Here's what he had to say:

After 3 months of development, the big 2.0 version has finally been released! This release features an all new game mode, Flag By Flag, server settings for infantry only & commander on/off, functionality to pause/unpause in-game as well as writing in-game during pause. You can check and change the server settings through a simple chat command, as well as take PunkBuster screenshots of players through a chat command. All servers also have the version number forced to the beginning of the server name to show players what version the server is using. This version also includes a new security feature – did you know that in BF2142, anyone can spawn vehicles or give themselves 100% HP through rcon commands? In Clan Mod 2.0, all such commands will be printed clearly in the chat to prevent cheating.

The new Flag By Flag game mode is available for the 16 player sizes of all maps except Belgrade, where the flags aren’t located in a straight line. This game mode is just like conquest but you need to take the flags in the correct order - perfect for infantry leagues! Today, almost all infantry pcws are played FBF, but there's one big issue with playing it without a game mode that's enforcing the rules; both teams often grey each other's flags about the same time. This is very annoying and often leads to discussions of who was first and so on - but with the new clan mod game mode, you won't need to worry anymore! Of course normal conquest is still included in the clan mod, and you can switch between them by simply typing !fbf on and !fbf off in chat!

Battlefield 2142 v1.20 Patch Released
Thursday 22 February 2007
Today we are releasing the latest update for Battlefield 2142. In this update we have addressed a number of issues and game play concerns.

• Fixed Pod Control Exploit – Players may no longer exploit the assault pods to ‘surf’ around the maps.
• Removed the stats category for the PK-74 AR-Rocket: All kills with this weapon are calculated into the statistics for the main assault kit weapon
• Servers will no longer crash when attempting to rotate to co-op mode with players joined into squads.
• Added correct flag for Czech Republic.
• Fixed PDS-1 sonar system interference with UAV. Soldiers are now shown correctly on UAV when PDS-1 is activated.
• Change to Heal and Repair Point Awarding: Heal and repair points awarded after a 50% heal / repair instead of 100% heal / repair.
• Fixed tracking of hours with the medic hub in BFHQ: Medic hub hours shown in BFHQ has been corrected.
• Fixed Squad leader drone exploit. Removed the possibility to use drones as a stairway to heaven.
• Fixed the Rorsch crosshair misalignment: The crosshair should now be correctly centered while not zoomed.
• Change to Out of Bounds Damage: We have changed the out of bounds damage system to immediately kill players after being out of bounds for 15 seconds. Please note that the total time a player can be out of bounds has not changed. This fix will help prevent stat padding exploits.
• Ranked Server APM setting hard coded: Anti-personnel mines are now always set to “Friendly fire off” on ranked servers. Increases consistency and prevents misunderstanding.
• Fixed an exploit using the reactor core door: Soldiers can no longer conceal themselves by moving back against the reactor core door.
• The correct message is now shown when trying to join a full server.
• Fixed crash when placing Squad Leader Spawn Beacon
• Added server side option to prevent Titan Movement
• Added optimization to Titan mode to reduce lag

We wanted to thank everyone who took the time to beta test this update and provide feedback to us. We have archived all feedback and will be reviewing everything that did not make it into this update for future updates.
