The guys over at POE have released an update, along with a video, give it a look.

Battlefield 2 Nvidia 8800 GT Benchmark

With the release of Nvidia's newest card, the 8800 GT, reviews have been pouring out on the internet all day. However the good folks over at Guru3D have put the card up to its most formidable challenge yet: Battlefield 2. Ok, so a little bit of exaggeration there, but none the less a useful benchmark test that may interest you. "I just love what this game can do in terms of gameplay and image quality. We had to use FRAPS to measure the performance and by use of the game command prompt remove a nasty framerate cap. The results do not lie.
Small note: the game by itself does not support these high resolutions, but simply make a little .bat file and insert the following, save this .bat file in the BF2 game directory and startup at the resolution of your choice:
bf2 +menu 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600 +fullscreen 1
Would you believe that you are again looking at 4xAA and 16xAF here @ 2560x1600 where we still have a friggin' 75+ FPS framerate with the 8800 GT. And in SLI we can smell the CPU limitation. Still a pretty measurable performance increase."
EA Continues The Battle Against Hackers

EA has released another update on their ongoing war against statistic padders and hackers. The update, which was posted on the BF Portal, boasts clearing nearly 700 cheaters stats clean as well as assuring us that the Customer Service department of EA is still on top of its job. "The effort against cheaters and padders goes on. We continue to investigate every reported case of cheating or padding in Battlefield games, then wiping the person's stats if appropriate. If you believe someone is cheating and padding, please visit this section of the EA Customer Support site for information on how to report them.
September saw a huge effort from the EA Customer Support team that resulted in over 700 Battlefield padders and cheaters having their stats wiped right down to zero. The servers they play on were also a focus for our anti-padding efforts. The team delisted 30 padding servers across both Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142.
In addition to this extensive manual effort we also continue to work on new methods to discourage stat padding. This will be combined with continuing other anti-cheating efforts as we believe everyone deserves the best playing experience possible in Battlefield."
DICE Responds To Battlefield 3 Rumors

All this week rumors have swirled about a possible Battlefield 3 under development by Dice, the development firm responsible for the Battlefield series. Apparently, according to rumors, the game will be a follow up to Battlefield 2, also based in the modern warfare arena. Well today, Dice responded to the rumors with a "we aren't saying anything.....yet" type of answer. The question was submitted to the team by Planet Battlefield, who received the following firm answer.
"We don't comment on rumors or speculation. Currently announced titles from DICE are Battlefield Bad Company and Mirror's Edge, you'll hear from us officially as soon as we have anything further to announce. For any future announcements regarding Battlefield keep an eye on www.battlefield.com."

Battlefield 2 Stat Issue Finally Resolved

A little bit slow on the news this weekend, but apparently EA has finally been able to fix the stats problem that has been plaguing not only Battlefield 2, but also our news section with useless updates on the situation. Its ok though, after all they did apologize so we will let it slide. All the stats should be up and running as normal, with the missing updated stats back online as well. Here is the official word from EA.
"The issue with Battlefield 2 stats not tracking has now been resolved. After the cause was isolated a fix was put into place by the server team earlier this week. Having monitored the situation for the past few days we are now convinced that this was effective in resolving the problem. A smaller issue with Special Forces army play time not tracking was also resolved shortly after it was pointed out to us by community members this week.
We would like to apologise for any frustration caused by both these issues, we hope you enjoy earning your unlocks and ranks now that system is working as intended. "
Battlefield 2 Stats Update

EA has released yet another announcement concerning the recent stats problems plaguing Battlefield 2 players. The announcement was posted on the official forums, and doesn't offer information as to when all the problems will be fixed, but rather thanks gamers for their patience in the matter. Either way, this is probably not the last announcement we will see from EA concerning Battlefield2 Stats. For more information on the problem, head on over to the Official Forum.

We are aware that there are still player’s not getting their stats reported accurately. Our Customer Support team, Engineers and Partners are working day and night to narrow down the cause of the problem. We appreciate all of the information that you have passed on to us for research. We all understand the importance of stats in Battlefield and want to stress that we will not rest until this problem is solved and everyone is getting accurate stats again.

Battlefield 2 Stats Back-Log Update Complete

In the latest update from EA on the Battlefield statistics outage last week, the team has announced that the updating of back-logged statistics is now complete. This means that all the stats that were missing have now been updated and are available for viewing. You can check out your missing stats by simply logging into BFHQ, however there is a chance your latest stats may be slightly delayed as the system continues to play catch-up.
"After the recent stats issues Battlefield 2 players have experienced we are happy to announce that the processing of all the backlogged stats has been completed this morning. You should see all the statistics you achieved during the outage the next time you log into BFHQ, however you may experience a slight delay in seeing newly acquired stats whilst the stats processing catches up with recently submitted stats. Should you continue to experience lost stats please contact EA Customer Support with server and your soldier details. "
Battlefield Highway Tampa Map Final Released

EA has release the final Highway Tampa map for Battlefield 2. The desert based map and is built for large tank battles between armies. There have also been several tweaks and improvements from the BETA version, including better equipment spawning and more infantry cover of flag positions. "Following a successful beta, the final version of Highway Tampa for Battlefield 2 is now ready to roll out. DICE, along with our update partner Intel, created this new map focused on tank battles that echo those of Battlefield 1942. Exploding shells ring out across the desert as tank columns meet in furious battle amidst the swirling sands.
Tweaks since the beta version include more infantry cover to help them hold onto flags, improved jeep spawning to better prevent stranded infantry and a number of glitch fixes. Battlefield 2 Stats Issue Update

EA has released a small update, no not for the game, that lets us know the current progress in trying to get the statistics back up and running. In the update, EA announced that they are working with the RSP (rank service providers) to fix the issue, but gave us no time frame as to when the stats should be back up and running.
"As I said before, the server information you provided was really helpful. A number of teams are now working with the RSPs and the servers you noted to narrow down the exact issue causing these stats outages. I don’t know much more than that at this point but I will keep you updated as I learn more. Also, I wanted to let you know that we have an answer up about the stats outage (linked below). WSVG Offers Mod Downloads At Lan Events

The WSVG has announced that in order to break the boredom of playing the same game for endless hours straight at LAN events, it will be offering the latest modifications free for download. The program will start at their upcoming event being held in Louisville, KY.
"The WSVG will now be offering attendees at our upcoming Louisville, KY (June 21st – 24th) and Dallas, TX (July 5th – 8th) events the latest and greatest game modifications out there to gamers in our BYOC area. Gain access to these mods by downloading them on-site and listening for announcements throughout the event for scheduled times to compete against your friends. Dedicated servers will also be provided during the event so you receive the greatest gaming experience possible. "

It seems updates for Battlefield 2 have not completely come to a halt, as EA released a new content update for Battlefield 2 today. While the update did not fix or change any of the game per say, it did give us a new map by the name of Highway Tampa.

No More Battlefield 2 Patches Planned

The guys over at DigitalBattle have posted up a new article today stating that no more patches are planned for Battlefield 2. Have a look:
According to ex-DICE employees, there are no more patches planned for the bug-filled multiplayer shooter Battlefield 2. The former DICE members, who now formed their own studio, said via a forum release that patch 1.4 (released last November)was the last BF2 patch, and that all forces at DICE are focused on Battlefield 2142, which is, unfortunately, just as bug filled as its predecessor.
EA and DICE hasn’t mentioned anything about a patch ever since the last one, over six months ago. And they will probably never reveal that no further patches are planned, since that’ll take away the last hope BF2 players have. Since there most likely won’t be an announcement, this will technically remain a rumor forever, just as BF2 will technically remain a bug filled game. Sad news to hear but I think everyone expected this for quite awhile now.

For those of you Battlefield 2 players who have been waiting for EA to release an Official Stats section, your wait is now over. EA has announced that its Battlefield 2 Stats Area, much like the Battlefield 2142 Stats Area, is now online and running. Here is the official word from EA on the launch.

Battlefield 2 v1.41 Patch Released

The folks over at EA have released a new patch for Battlefield 2, v 1.41. The new patch is supposed to fix the intermittent server crash bug. There appears to be no incremental update for this patch, which means everyone will be doing quite a bit of downloading in the next several hours. Here is the full press release:
"Greetings, Things continue to move within the Battlefield Universe. Today we are releasing the 1.41 patch for Battlefield 2 that resolves an intermittent crash that affected game servers. Although this is a small update this improvement will greatly improve the stability for players. This patch will be available beginning at 8:00am PST.
We are also continuing our Beta Testing for the Battlefield 2142 1.05 update while adding further enhancements to our Master Server systems to help eliminate the disconnect issues affecting some players. These updates were introduced during Tuesdays maintenance and do not require any updating by players. As we move closer to the 1.05 release we are also stepping up our enforcement of policies against players who exploit the stats system.
With over 100 player accounts already wiped our support staff will continue to address the accounts of players who use exploit tactics to advance themselves. We will also be announcing policy changes regarding player cheating and stats exploit in the near future.
For all players who are interested in hosting their own Battlefield 2142 server the new Server Provider Page is now live. Please check out this page in order to easily locate a Ranked Server Provider in your region.

New Battlefield Maintenance Schedule

EA has posted an updated maintenance schedule on their forums this morning. The post allows gamers to know when EA has planned maintenance as well as downtime which may occur. While the post applies to all Battlefield platforms, we went ahead and posted it under Battlefield 2. Here is the full post.
"What are the maintenance times for Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, and Battlefield 2142? Why can't I connect or properly access Battlefield services during these times?
The Battlefield franchise has many moving parts, and at times needs to be re-synched, updated, or restarted to make sure that errors and issues with the service are avoided or repaired. Electronic Arts reserves the times listed below to perform maintenance on Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat, and Battlefield 2142.
Standard Maintenance Window Tuesday: 12 a.m. - 3 a.m. Pacific Time 1 a.m. - 4 a.m. Mountain Time 2 a.m. - 5 a.m. Central Time 3 a.m. - 6 a.m. Eastern Time

EA Completes Purchase Of Dice

Looks like EA's deal to buyout DICE has fianlly been completed today and DICE is now totally integrated into EA studio. Here is the official press release from EA:

The acquisition is effective immediately.

They come in 10 different languages and in ultra high quality (uhi), and regular high quality (.zip and .mov) There doesn't seem to be an English version up yet but some of the videos are in English with different language captions, so it is still worth checking out. EA Games and Dice officially announced that Battlefield 2142 has gone Gold. Battlefield 2142 is scheduled to hit shelves on October 17. Here is a clip from the official release.
